Today, at the Palazzo Franchetti in Venice, the first edition of The Venice Glass Week was presented.
More 140 different events (exhibitions, conventions, seminars, video screenings, educational activities, thematic dinners and open furnaces) will take place during the international festival dedicated to glass art, with particular eye on Murano.
The Organizing Comitee has unveiled the contents of this first edition, which will include all major institutions of the city from September 10 to 17, 2017, with the aim of revitalizing and supporting the most important artistic and productive activity in the area. A week full of events that will once again make Venice the world art glass center.
The initiative, promoted by the City of Venice and conceived by the three main Venetian cultural institutions in the field Venice Museum Foundation, Giorgio Cini Foundation, Veneto Institute of Science, Arts and Letters – and Consorzio Promovetro Murano, managing authority for the Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark had a choral response. Hundreds of requests, selected by the committee, from foundations, art galleries, museum institutions, cultural institutions, universities, institutes of higher education, glassware, furnaces, companies, artists and private collectors, both Italian and foreign;
The Venice Glass Week program, which will be available from the beginning of July on www.theveniceglassweek.com, will be made of the most varied initiatives – most of them free of charge – all of them with a common theme: glass exhibitions, conferences, seminars, prizes, but also screenings, educational activities, racing competitions among the furnaces, parties, theme dinners and open furnaces, addressed to public of all ages.
“We strongly wanted this event,” says Luciano Gambaro, President of Consorzio Promovetro, and we have believed in it sicne the very beginning. We think this can be an injection of confidence and a major boost for a significant revival of Murano glass. The success of this first edition so far has gone beyond any possible prediction , signifyng that glass in general and Murano in particular are still seen as synonymous of art, culture and tradition and Venice of course is its natural stage. And this must continue.
Consorzio Promovetro will participate at the festival with some very important initiatives, in particular:
From August 30th to September 13th, as part of the collaboration between Consorzio Promovetro and Teatro La Fenice, the exhibition GOLD will be hosted at the Sale Apollinee of the theatre, a precious Murano Glass installation created thanks to the artwork of the Murano companies bearer of the Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark, with gold as a common general theme, an element that often characterizes the Murano production, synonymous of wealth and prosperity.
In addition, Consorzio Promovetro will propose various itineraries to discover Murano glass. The Murano Glass Experience will take the visitor to observe the glass masters at work in those furnaces and in those laboratories of the island which usually are not open to vistors.
Two more initiatives have been developed in collaboration with Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
“Glass Matter – Innovation through Technology “, organized with DEL_FabLab, will develop a collaboration of glass masters and designers specialised in 3D modeling and rapid prototyping tools (3D printing, Lasercutter, CNC mills) to develop “Innovative” products that will be presented at Venice Chamber of Commerce. The dialogue between tradition and innovation will be facilitated by the DEL_FabLab laboratory.
The second initiative is a collaboration with the Department of managment at Ca ‘Foscari University of Venice. On September 11th, at the Venice Chamber of Commerce the seminar “Glass & Murano: dialogues for a business future between culture, tradition and innovation ” will be presented.
