THE MURANO GLASS:
journey into the tradition

In collaboration with the Veneto Regional Command of the Guardia di Finanza, the Promovetro Murano Consortium organized the exhibition “MURANO GLASS: journey into the Tradition” on the spectacular main floor of Palazzo Corner Mocenigo.
The objects on display are accompanied by infographics that guide the visitor through the history of artistic glass, from its origins to the present day.
Until June 30, 2024 it will be possible to admire over 50 objects in Murano glass created by the concessionaire companies of the “Vetro Artistico® Murano” brand with the participation of the historic company Barovier&Toso and Carlo Donà, the company producing the instruments used by the expert hands of the masters in furnaces.
The link between glass and Venice is very ancient, it begins with the arrival in the lagoon of the population fleeing the barbarian invasions. Subsequently, the far-sighted choice to move all glass production to the island of Murano allowed the birth of one of the first “industrial” centers in history. The true wealth of Murano was (and still is) its workers, who perfected the quality of the glass, always invented new and refined colors and developed an exceptional skill in modeling incandescent glass capable, after more than seven centuries, of still be appreciated and sought after by contemporary artists.
The works on display represent the current production of the island of Murano and aim to summarize, albeit partially, the various types of processing that have made, and continue to make, the history of artistic glass in Murano and around the world.
The exhibition, which enjoys the patronage of the Municipality of Venice and the Veneto Region, was included in the initiatives of the first edition of the National Day of Made in Italy.
