For years, Promovetro has been fighting together with Confartigianato Venezia and Confindustria Venezia to establish a trademark for the original Murano glass, which puts an end to the infinite speculations that have been perpetrated for decades to the detriment of Murano by operators who are oblivious to the delicate balances on which this thousand-year-old activity is founded.
Now the Vetro Artistico® Murano brand, (designed by Diego Lazzarini) established by law of the Veneto Region n.70 of 23 December 1994, has finally become a reality and Promovetro has been entrusted with its management and promotion at a global level.
Promovetro, in its own right, can be considered one of the main custodians of the production of original Murano artistic glass. The Consortium can proudly declare that the consortium’s artisan and industrial companies produce artistic glass in a completely artisanal way, piece by piece, with a lot of work and limited technology in compliance with the authentic Murano tradition.

The Artistic® Murano glass trademark (the Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark) is a proof of origin provided by the Veneto Region in compliance with the law 70, passed on December 23 1994. It certifies that products have been made on the island of Murano, according to glass making tradition and using the same raw materials of the last 1000 years. It is managed by Consorzio Promovetro.
WHY IS THE TRADEMARK NECESSARY?
To protect the image of Murano glass and also to guarantee the customer about the origin of the product and that it has been made using traditional artistic methods born witht the foundationd of Venice and developed over a thousand years in the island of Murano.
WHAT DOES THE TRADEMARK GUARANTEE?
The security that the product you purchased is genuine Murano Glass, made on Murano island, accoding to glass making tradition. It is the proof of that the object was really made in Murano.
WHO CAN DISPLAY IT?
Only companies producing artistic glass on the island of Murano can apply for the trademark to the Veneto Region. HOW DOES IT WORK?
Concessionary companies apply a special stick-on label anticounterfeit label to their products. It is produced with various security and traceability elements, to guarantee, without any doubt the origin of the product.
WHAT DOES THE STICK-ON LABEL LOOK LIKE?
The label displays the trademark’s logo and can either be produced with red and gold colours for blue and gold colours according to the different kind of glass making techniques. On the top there is the Concessionary Company’s code. Since 2016 the sticker has presented a serial number and a datamatrix code that unequivocally identify the product and represent its “identification card”.
